Rio Tinto is seeking a highly motivated individual to join its team in the role of Civil Construction Specialist; delivering the world-class Oyu Tolgoi underground mine in Mongolia. This role is part of the Extraction & Haulage Level Construction team which is responsible for the safe and efficient construction of the mine Ore Handling System (extraction level to primary crusher) as well as the extraction level roadways and draw points.
4 weeks on/2 weeks off FIFO arrangement
The applicant will:
Assist with reviewing design drawings, reports, specifications and tender documents for underground pavement/concreting works, demonstrate an understanding of pavement design methodologies and construction methods;
Re-evaluate existing designs to search for improvements in constructability; increased durability resulting in extension of pavement life and optimizing product quality/cost balance;
Work with the on-site batch plant operator and other relevant stakeholders to source optimal materials for the pavement and undertake trial mixes to ensure consistent delivery of quality products that meets specifications;
Establish a project quality system and ensure it is applied during pavement construction life cycle including auditing all aspects of the process, including all laboratory and field testing, acceptance of used materials, checking and accepting all remedial and corrective measures;
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills & Experience
Successful candidates should have:
Civil Engineering Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience;
Experience with pre-cast construction techniques, developing world construction, underground environment;
Minimum of 3 years of site supervision experience.
Proficient reading and understanding of construction documents and blueprints
Analytical, organization, contract management skills, commercial acumen and problem-solving skills;
Good knowledge of MS Office Suite;
Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and in plain language;
A good multi-tasker with high attention to detail;
Analyse laboratory and technical reports, carry out acceptance sampling plans, testing and quality measures, ensuring compliance with the project’s Specifications.
